Reduce, Re-use and Recycle

Reduce

All motors produce waste emissions, but motors in poor condition are far greater polluters than those in good working order.  By supplying high quality spare parts, both new and second-hand, and by servicing outboard engines, M & W Marine Servicing works to reduce the pollution from outboard engines, whether they be for work or recreation.  We also reduce the waste at the end of an outboard motor's life by buying wrecks and salvaging what can be re-used to keep other motors in top working condition and recycling the rest.

We also do what we can to reduce waste and pollution in the working environment.  A recent example is the development of a new outside test-tank made from recycled products, that reduces the amount of water used in testing outboards during a service.

Re-use

M & W Marine Servicing buys old outboard engines and strips them of parts that are still in good working order to be re-used in keeping still-working motors in good working order.  We have thousands of items, from tiny springs to whole legs, from a large range of brands and models.  These parts are available as individual items, but we also recondition such sub-assemblies as starter motors, gear boxes and power-heads, re-using parts where possible.  It is an interesting balancing act between re-using spares and ensuring the quality of reconditioned items meets our high standards.

Our re-use of products does not stop there.  M & W Marine sends spare parts out Australia-wide on a daily basis, and approximately 90% of the packaging used to wrap these orders are re-used materials.  The boxes, and the plastic bags and newspapers used for padding come from such diverse places as our families, the bike shop down the road for large cartons and the containers the new parts orders arrive in.

Recycle

Once the re-usable parts are stripped from an outboard motor, the rest is sent to the scrap metal merchants for recycling.  M & W Marine Servicing sorts the scrap into different types to ensure the best possible use is made of the metal.  We also recycle as much of our other waste, eg paper and plastic food containers, as is practicable.

Environmental Policy

M & W Marine Servicing, by its very nature, is committed to reducing the environmental impact of the outboard engine sector in Australia.  As a dealer in second-hand outboard motor parts it provides its customers with re-usable  components, recycles parts that can't be used and generally assists in lowering emissions through the provision of services that keep outboard motors running as efficiently as possible.

M & W Marine Servicing

  • aims to minimise the use of all materials, supplies and energy, wherever possible re-using components, with recycling a core business practice;
  • communicates its environmental policy to all employees and on-site contractors and encourages them to comply;
  • aims to minimise the environmental impacts of the business within the current technical and economic conditions through the assessment and revision of techniques, equipment and supplies; and
  • keeps abreast of, and complies with, environmental legislation to the best of its abilities in order to continuously improve its environmental performance.
